Posted by DAWN at 2:34 PM Events | Trainings | Advocacy Opportunities
Wisconsin is fortunate to have a unique statewide leadership training available to both youth with disabilities ages 14-20 and their parents. The Youth in Partnership with Parents for Empowerment (YiPPE) meets six times between October and May in Wisconsin Dells. Youth attend one track, while their parents participate in another. Some activities are shared. The focus is on building self-advocacy and leadership skills in youth with disabilities and leadership/advocacy skills in parents.
The training is completely free, including overnight accommodations, meals and materials. Families and youth commit to attend all 6 sessions. The program only has space for 25 youth and their parents/guardians and fills up each year. Youth and their parents commit to a "community action project" at home.
Youth get substantial support in their projects from facilitators. Youth with all types of disabilities participate. For more information please download the brochure.
