Timothy Shriver, Chairman of Special Olympics, wrote an op-ed piece about a new movie coming out on August 13, 2008 called "Tropic Thunder". His article appears in the Washington Post (read below) on August 11, 2008. Meanwhile, disability advocates are preparing for a possible national boycott of the film.

The American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) is once again accepting applications from Emerging Leaders with Disabilities to apply for AAPD's 2009 PAUL G. HEARNE LEADERSHIP AWARD. This year, AAPD will recognize three (3) Hearne Award recipients at our 2009 Leadership Gala in Washington , D.C. , present them each with $10,000 cash, and include each in AAPD's 2009 Leadership Initiatives. Applications are due by 5 PM EST, Tuesday, September 30, 2008.

The Survival Coalition of Wisconsin Disability Organizations will hold several training sessions around the state on Family Care. People who attend will learn more about Family Care and what they can expect from it.

U.S. Senator Russ Feingold will hold listening sessions in the following counties from August 9 through 12, 2008: Pepin, Buffalo, Vilas, Iron, Polk, and St. Croix. Senator Feingold has pledged to hold listening sessions in all of Wisconsin’s 72 counties each year of his six-year term. If constituents need special accommodations at the listening session they should contact Senator Feingold’s Middleton office at 608-828-1200.
