The
Disability Voter List Serv
The Disability Voter List Serv listserv is a way to share information and ideas. It is possible to seek the comments, guidance, and technical assistance of your peers as well as to share thoughts and ideas and exchange resources which will help us to do our good work. There are a few simple rules and responsibilities that will help keep the list effective.
- Non-Partisan List: This is a non-partisan listserv on voting issues pertaining to people with disabilities. Postings that encourage individuals to vote for a particular candidate or issue are not permitted.
- Your Response: When responding to questions keep your messages brief and identify yourself at the close of your message by including your first name. If you work for an agency, or if you are connected to a group also include that information. For example, someone might end their email with “Jane” or “Jane Smith” or “Jane, North Country Independent Living Center” or “Jane Smith from ADAPT”
- Keep it Moving: Please don’t send messages without content, such as “I agree!” or “me too” or “thank you.” Your contribution should move the discussion along, not just make it longer.
- Response to One Member: If your post is relevant only to one member of the list, please contact that person directly. (If the person is the sender of the message to which you are responding, his or her e-mail address will be in the “From” line.) NOTE: messages sent through the listserv will show DisVote@list.dawninfo.org in the “To:” line of your open message.
- Attachments: Attachments can be sent to members of the listserv but must be 150 KB or smaller. Any attachments that you send must be in an accessible format. Also please take care to use fonts without serifs (such as Arial, Verdana, Tahoma, and Helvetica) in the text of your email messages and attachments.
- Be Nice: Do not be critical of people’s inquiries posted on the listserv. This listserv is to be a “safe” area for discussion.
- Forwarded Message: Do not forward a listserv message outside of the group without first receiving the author’s permission by emailing them directly. For example, you should send a message to their personal email address and not through DisVote@list.dawninfo.org.
- Use of Humor: Be careful when using humor in your messages, it can be misunderstood.
- Use of Abbreviations: If you use acronyms or abbreviations, explain what they mean. For example, the first time you mention GOTV in your email write “Get out the vote (GOTV)”.
- List Management: This listserv is not actively managed, and messages are not approved by a listserv manager prior to distribution. It is your responsibility to send out messages that follow the rules. If rules are violated, you may be removed from the list.
- Unsubscribe: Be sure to unsubscribe when your email address changes. Although you may be able to receive your messages if they are forwarded you will not be able to respond or send any messages to the group. Similarly, if your email is undeliverable for a period of time, you may be removed from the list.
